i am the internet
I missed International Shut Down (Your Computer) Day on the 24th …
I came across some text books from when I studied Media Studies at ar em eye te a decade or so ago. The internet wasn’t popular then, I was still writing essays on an electric typewriter and I learnt how to edit videotape on an analogue system. For exciting effects, like text titles, we used an Amiga computer that was cutting edge and very expensive. A decade ago but a million lights yeears away now.
I occasionally read my old lecturer’s, and his students’, blogs. They are learning to broadcast on the web using Quicktime, shooting stuff on cheap digital cameras and publishing. They are grappling with technology and the theory behind what they are doing in a much more immediate way. It’s dirty and noisy, but much more exciting and assessible than what we were managing 10 or so years ago.
Sometimes I wish I had been present for the digital revolution.
you’re plenty present baby. perhaps not bleeding edge but certainly your in the game.
(and see you tomorrow)
PS. not only are you the internet but you are also Queens Boulevard.
I am Queens Boulevard!
