where technology kicks our arse

so far in the last few days these things have broken, or are in need of some serious repair:
1 house alarm
1 hot water service
1 pc, with nearly every photo we have taken (stupid me. do backups from now on.)
1 car (the one with the car seat.)
1 eilis’ shoulder
also while driving a borrowed car with carseat to pick up partner & baby from st kilda one stupid car in front of me on the Westgate decided to just stop on the bridge because driver and passenger were having an argument. lots of screeching tyres behind me. thank christ do not have to add friend’s car to list of broken things.
and what is the lesson i have learnt from this weekend: AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.
is there anything i can do to try to help with the PC? i am not sure if i can do much if the hard drive is cactus, but we can try sticking it in my machine and seeing what happens?
I only have one copy of my pictures too, but they are now on the external drive…
thanks jojof. eilis got it running in safe mode last night so we’ve been burning all the stuff we can and transferring it to my computer as well.
it’s a laptop, not a desktop, so i don’t know how you open those things up and rip their guts out?
we’ve got a new pc coming next week.
external drive is a brilliant idea, btw.
i think i’ll buy one of those once we get the new computer going.
jojof - i have resurrected the laptop in safe mode and have uninstalled stacks of stuff and am busily trying to copy everything to cds. now i understand what you meant by making coasters last week - so far i’ve made 3 successful back-up cds and 5 discs have been spat back out at me for our coaster collection. now trying to copy files via memory stick on to kristen’s mac.
i do have a 160 gb portable hard drive if you want to borrow that. don’t know that it will copy to the mac, as it won’t talk to the imac, but i got around that by copying stuff to DVD on my desktop.
